Get a Headstart
You don’t have to wait for fall to begin your UC Santa Cruz journey. Whether you want to take classes early, connect with other incoming students, or get support as you prepare to study in the U.S. as an international student, there are programs and resources designed to help you start strong. Take advantage of these early opportunities to ease your transition and feel more prepared for what’s ahead.

Get ahead with Summer Edge
Summer Edge gives newly admitted students a chance to earn credits, get familiar with the campus, and build community before fall quarter begins. Take classes, connect with advisors and peers, and gain confidence as you transition into college life—all during the summer.

IGNITE your first year
IGNITE, or Inspiring Growth, Nurturing Innovation, & Transforming Education, is a free extended orientation program that sparks connection, confidence, and belonging for incoming students. Through workshops, peer connections, and community-building activities, IGNITE helps students from all backgrounds feel confident and prepared—academically, socially, and personally—before the school year begins.

Start strong as an international student
If you’re an international student starting at UCSC, there are important steps to take before arriving in the U.S.—from visa requirements and travel planning to orientation and campus life prep. The International Student Services and Programming (ISSP) team is here to guide you through it all and help you feel at home before you even land.
