Congratulations on your admission to UC Santa Cruz—one of the top public universities in the world! We’re excited to welcome you to our community and look forward to supporting you as you begin your journey.
What’s next
After you submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR), you’ll receive an email from orientation@ucsc.edu with information about how to access your orientation course and begin preparing for winter quarter.
Orientation course
All new students are required to complete the Winter Orientation Course, which will be available in Canvas starting October 16.
This online course will help you with:
- Preparing for class enrollment
- Navigating campus life and academic resources
- Learning about services, support programs, and ways to get involved
Completing the Orientation Course is key to starting your UCSC experience with confidence. It gives you the tools, information, and support you need to enroll in classes, understand campus resources, and make a smooth transition into university life.
Talk to your advisors
As a winter admit, it’s important to connect with both your college and major (department) advisors before enrolling in classes. They’ll help you plan your schedule and ensure you’re on track for a successful start.
Enroll in classes
You’ll be able to enroll in classes during your enrollment appointment, which will be viewable in your MyUCSC portal starting after November 6. Enrollment appointments will begin after November 13—mark your calendar!
Campus winter closure
Please note: UCSC offices will be closed from December 22 through January 2 for winter break. We strongly recommend reaching out to the Admissions Office, Financial Aid, the Registrar, and your advisors no later than December 1 to ensure all questions are answered and support is available.
Winter Welcome
Winter Welcome includes events and programming to help you get connected and feel at home. Some sessions are required, and all are highly encouraged. You’ll receive details by email.
First day of classes
Winter quarter classes begin on Monday, January 5, 2026.
Visiting Student Orientation
Throughout the fall, you’ll receive important email updates about UC Santa Cruz resources, Canvas access, and enrollment steps. The Visiting Student Winter Orientation course will be available in Canvas beginning November 15.
